In the West Region of Singapore, an Integrated Transport Hub (ITH) in the planning area and residential town of Bukit Panjang made its debut. An ITH is a facility that functions as a central point whereby individuals can more easily transfer between different modes of public transportation. The one in Bukit Panjang became the ninth ITH to go into service in Singapore. The Bukit Panjang ITH was officially opened by Lee Hsien Loong (born in 1952), the prime minister of Singapore from 2004 to 2024.
Bukit Panjang ITH is located within Hillion Mall shopping center. Along with sharing space with a bus interchange that dates back to 1999, this ITH is adjacent to a station that serves as a link for both the Downtown Line of the Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) system and the Bukit Panjang Light Rail Transit (LRT) automated guideway transit line. Bukit Panjang ITH has the added distinction of being the first ITH to be managed by SMRT Buses, which is Singapore’s second largest bus operator. (The accompanying photo of Bukit Panjang ITH was taken just a few days before its grand opening.)
