2008: The Start of Operations for a Bus Line in Mexico City

December 16, 2008

A newly completed bus rapid transit (BRT) line in Mexico’s capital and largest city first went into service. Construction on Line 2 of the Mexico City Metrobús had begun on September 4 of the previous year. The line was officially inaugurated by Marcelo Ebrard, who served as the Head of Government of the Federal District (Mexico City) from 2006 to 2012.

The Mexico City Metrobús Line 2 covers a total of 12.4 miles (20 kilometers) between the city’s boroughs of Iztapalapa and Miguel Hidalgo. This line, which serves 36 stations altogether, is one of seven that comprise Mexico City’s BRT system.
