In Los Angeles, a bus station was opened in the neighborhood of Canoga Park in the city’s San Fernando Valley region. This station, which is specifically located on Canoga Avenue, is part of the G Line of the Los Angeles Metro Busway system.
Canoga station was built to help address the lack of parking at other G Line stations that had already been opened in the western area of the San Fernando Valley. Zev Yaroslavsky (born in 1948), who was chair of the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors at the time, highlighted the fact that Canoga station made its formal debut during the week between Christmas and New Year’s Day.
“The opening of this new station is our holiday gift for Valley commuters,” Yaroslavsky asserted. He further stated, “Canoga station now provides more West Valley commuters with a viable alternative to the congested Ventura Freeway.”
While there were originally 612 parking spaces installed at Canoga station, this number was eventually reduced to 258 to accommodate the northward four-mile (6.4-kilometer) extension of the G Line to the Los Angeles neighborhood of Chatsworth. This extension was completed in 2012 and, as a part of the project, a 207-space parking lot was put in place at a station built on Sherman Way in Canoga Park.
Along with being outfitted with parking spaces for motor vehicles, Canoga station contains both racks and lockers for bicycles. This station’s other notable features include artwork created by Roy Dowell (born in 1951).
The G Line, which is one of two routes operated by the Los Angeles Metro Busway, covers 17.7 miles (28.5 kilometers) between Chatsworth and the city’s neighborhood of North Hollywood. This bus rapid transit line encompasses a total of 17 stations at approximately one-mile (1.6-kilometer) intervals.
