Operations began for Kualanamu International Airport in Indonesia’s province of North Sumatra. This airport is located in Deli Serdang Regency, which is about 14 miles (23 kilometers) east of North Sumatra’s capital city of Medan.
A little over eight months after the “soft opening” of Kualanamu International Airport, a formal inauguration of this facility was held. Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono (born in 1949) who served as president of Indonesia from October 2004 until October 2014, was among the dignitaries taking part in those inaugural festivities.
Kualanamu International Airport is the third largest airport in Indonesia. It is also one of the country’s busiest airports. Another one of Kualanamu International Airport’s claims to fame is that it became the first Indonesian airport to receive a four-star rating from Skytrax, a London-based consultancy that maintains a website for customer reviews of airports and airlines across the globe.
