A major bus station in Taipei, the capital city of Taiwan, first went into service. Those taking part in the inauguration of this station included Hau Lung-pin (born in 1952), who was mayor of Taipei from 2006 to 2014. The Taipei City Hall Bus Station is located in a mixed-use skyscraper complex that measures 490 feet (150 meters) tall and encompasses 30 floors altogether above the ground.
In reporting on the official debut of the Taipei City Hall Bus Station, the Singapore-based news website AsiaOne.com highlighted not only the wide-ranging transit services provided by this facility but also its key linkages with a few other tenants in the building where they are all housed.
“The new bus station is integrated with the City Hall Station of the Nangang line [of Taipei Mass Rapid Transit], plus a new hotel and a department store,” noted AsiaOne.com. “Buses serving 19 routes leading to major cities and townships in northern and central Taiwan started moving the passengers following an opening ceremony at 10.30 a.m.” More than a decade later, the heavily used Taipei City Hall Bus Station continues to play a pivotal role within Taiwan’s public transportation network.
