1967: The Opening of an Airport in Queensland

October 28, 1967

An airport in the town and locality of Chinchilla in the Australian state of Queensland was officially opened. The inaugural duties for the occasion were performed by Reginald Swartz (1911-2006), who was Australia’s minister for civil aviation from 1966 to 1969. This ceremony took place two days after the first aircraft had landed at the airport.

Chinchilla Airport is served by weekday charter flights to Taroom Airport and Brisbane Airport, both of which are likewise located in Queensland. The flights are operated by Skytrans Airlines with De Havilland Canada DHC-8 aircraft. One of those planes is shown in the accompanying photo taken at Chinchilla Airport in 2023.
