2015: The Opening of a Ferry Wharf in Australia

January 18, 2015

In the Australian state of Queensland, a ferry wharf on the northern side of the Brisbane River was inaugurated. This wharf is specifically located near the intersection of Park Road and Coronation Drive in Milton, an inner suburb of Queensland’s capital city of Brisbane. Graham Quirk, who was lord mayor of Brisbane from 2011 to 2019, unlocked the gates to the structure to officially open it to the public.

Milton ferry wharf was built to facilitate the increased use of ferries as a viable public transportation alternative for that part of Queensland. Construction on this wharf began in June 2014.

The key features of Milton ferry wharf include a pier that was designed to deflect floating debris away from the overall structure; a dual-berthing pontoon with an accessible ramp to allow disabled individuals to more safely board a vessel or disembark from it; and a covered waiting area with seating for passengers. This wharf is owned by Brisbane City Council and operated by the regional company RiverCity Ferries.
