In Norway’s capital city of Oslo, operations began for a rapid transit station in the borough of Grünerløkka. This station is part of the Oslo Metro, and it was specifically built in Grünerløkka’s neighborhood of Løren. Construction on Løren station started in 2013.
Løren station, which is 89 feet (27 meters) underground, was designed by architect Arne Henricksen (born in 1946). Henriksen has also designed numerous other rail stations in Norway. He is a three-time recipient of the Houen Fund Certificate. This certificate is awarded by the National Association of Norwegian Architects for noteworthy architectural achievements.
Along with being one of the stations most recently added to the Oslo Metro, Løren station is among the busiest within the entire system. Another claim to fame for this station is that it is the only one on the Oslo Metro line sharing the same name. Measuring just one mile (1.6 kilometers) in length, the Løren Line serves as a link between the Oslo Metro’s Ring and Grorud Lines.
