Macif, a 98-foot (30-meter)-long vessel, was officially launched. This vessel is an Ultim-class maxi-trimaran, which is a type of multihull boat built with a main hull that has two outrigger hulls (floats) attached to it via lateral beams. Macif — named for the French insurance company that owns her — was designed by the naval architectural firm Van Peteghem Lauriot- Prévost and jointly constructed by CDK Technologies and Multiplast.
Macif won in the Ultime category of the 2015 edition of Transat Jacques Vabre (now called the Transat Café-L’Or), a transatlantic yachting race that starts in France and finishes in Brazil. Macif’s skipper François Gabart (born in 1983), sailing dual-handed with Pascal Bidégorry (born in 1968), completed the voyage between the French city of Le Havre and the Brazilian municipality of Itajaí in 12 days, 17 hours, 29 minutes, and 27 seconds.
While traveling on his own in Macif in 2017, Gabart set a new speed record for sailing solo around the world. He completed this circumnavigation in 42 days, 16 hours, 40 minutes, and 35 seconds. During one part of this voyage, Gabart covered a total of 850.7 miles (1,369.1 kilometers) in 24 hours.
In 2020, Macif was renamed Actual Ultim 3. The accompanying photo of this vessel was taken in Le Havre prior to the start of her participation in the 2015 edition of Transat Jacques Vabre.
