In the Australian state of Victoria, an arterial route built in the vicinity of southeastern Melbourne’s suburb of Dingley Village first went into service. Dingley Bypass was officially opened by Luke Donnellan (born in 1966), who served as the minister for Roads and Road Safety within the Executive Council of Victoria from 2014 to 2018.
Construction on Dingley Bypass began in 2014 and was completed five months ahead of schedule. This vehicular bypass – signed as Metropolitan Route 87 – is specifically a divided highway with three lanes in each direction. It covers a total of 3.8 miles (6.1 kilometers) between South Road (Metropolitan Route 14) in the Melbourne suburb of Oakleigh South and Westall Road (Metropolitan Route 49) in the city’s suburb of Springvale South. In the time since the inauguration of Dingley Bypass, a 3.2-mile (5.2-kilometer)-long bicycle path has been opened alongside it.
