The Arganzuela Footbridge in the central area of Madrid, Spain, was opened to the public. This bridge, which took about 14 months to build, serves as a link between the Arganzuela and Carabanchel districts of Spain’s capital and most populous city.
French architect and urban planner Dominique Perrault (born in 1953) designed the Arganzuela Bridge for both pedestrians and cyclists. The bridge includes two metal cone-shaped structures that are collectively 912.1 feet (278 meters) in length. The Arganzuela Bridge spans both the Manzanares river and part of Madrid Río Park.
Alberto Ruiz-Gallardón (born in 1958), who would serve as mayor of Madrid until December of that year, formally inaugurated the Arganzeula Bridge. Perrault joined him for this Thursday opening.
