November 4, 1846
A railway station in the village and community of Ruabon in Wrexham County Borough in Wales was inaugurated. This structure — the original version of Ruabon railway station — was built in the Italianate style. It was designed by English architect and surveyor Thomas Mainwaring Penson (1818-1864).
In 1860, this station was replaced by one that had been designed by Scottish civil engineer Henry Robertson (1816-1888) and built in the neo-Tudor style. The present-day version of Ruabon railway station, which is featured in the accompanying photo taken in 2014, remains in service today. It is managed by Transport for Wales Rail Limited, a publicly owned train operating company, as part of the 84.4-mile (135.8-kilometer) Shrewsbury-Chester. Ruabon railway station is also a bus interchange. This railway station has the added distinction of being one of the busiest in Wrexham County Borough.
