Forsyth station, part of the St. Louis MetroLink system, first went into service. This station, which was one of six on that light rail station to be opened on the same day, is located underneath the intersection of Forest Park Parkway and Forsyth Boulevard in the St. Louis suburb of University City. More specifically, Forsyth station was built within an open-cut (or roof-free) section of the Big Bend Tunnel.
One of Forsyth station’s distinguishing characteristics is artwork on display there that was created by Lindsey Stouffer. This work, titled Hoi Polloi, features stainless steel screens that give passersby an optical illusion of shimmering images. These large screens become even brighter at night due to automatic lighting mechanisms within each unit. Stouffer created this work as part of St. Louis MetroLink’s Arts in Transit program.
The Blue Line of St. Louis MetroLink contains 25 stations and covers 24 miles (38.6 kilometers) altogether. St. Louis Metrolink in its entirety encompasses 46 miles (74 kilometers) and has a grand total of 38 stations.
