An elevated infill station on Line 4 of the Chilean rapid transit system known as the Santiago Metro was opened to the public. This station, which is located at the intersection of Vicuña Mackenna Avenue and San José de la Estrella Street in the commune of La Florida in Chile’s capital city, was built between the Trinidad and Los Quillayes stations. (“San José de la Estrella” is Spanish for “Saint Joseph of the Star.”)
San José de la Estrella station was inaugurated by Michelle Bachelet (born in 1951), who served as president of Chile between 2006 and 2010 and again from 2014 to 2018. Other dignitaries attending the ceremony included Clemente Pérez (born in 1967), chairman of the Santiago Metro from 2007 to 2010. The opening of San José de la Estrella station took place nearly two years after Bachelet, along with Santiago Mayor Pablo Zalaquett (born in 1963), laid the foundation stone for this station.
Line 4 of the Santiago Metro now encompasses 23 stations altogether and a total of 14.9 miles (23.9 kilometers). The rapid transit system in its entirety consists of seven lines, 143 stations, and 92.6 miles (149 kilometers).
